Giants, Kikito, September 6, 2017, 7:02 P.M., Tecate, Mexico – U.S.A.

2017

In this photograph, a border patrol officer stands in front of an installation by artist JR that emerged in Tecate, Mexico, in 2017. The work features an enormous black-and-white photograph of a one-year-old child, pasted onto plywood sheets and mounted on a 65-foot-high metal scaffold, which when viewed from the US side, creates the illusion that the child (Kikito) is peering curiously over the border wall. The installation was made in response to President Donald J. Trump’s plans to build a permanent wall along the US–Mexico border and the threat to end the DACA program.
