Inspired by John Keel’s 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, Frank Frazetta created his own image of the famous creature, which according to local legend resides in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Reports of the Mothman began in 1966 when two local couples traveling together north of town described encountering a seven-foot tall, winged figure with large glowing red eyes.  Soon after, residents of Point Pleasant began reporting their own encounters with the Mothman, as well as UFO sightings and the sudden appearance in town of men dressed in black. Frazetta’s depiction of the creature would later appear on the May 1980 cover of High Times magazine, and the cover of the 1991 paperback edition of Keel’s book.
